‘Far from us is humiliation’ – this immortal line from Imam Hussain (as) was not just to be used against Yazid (la), but rather it is a lesson for us to stand up against the injustices we may face in our lives. Domestic violence and the unjust withholding of divorce are gross cases of abuse within our community that no human being deserves to endure. Islam gave us, both men and women, rights and its about time people started demanding these rights and standing against the individuals who violate them rather than being shamed into silence.
