1-100 “Introduction to Anupamaa’s life, her family’s behavior towards her, and Vanraj’s affair and betrayal”
The story revolves around a Gujarati homemaker Anupamaa Shah. She’s having a family-oriented and self-sacrificing nature. Some of her family members which include her mother-in-law Leela, her husband, Vanraj, and her children, Paritosh and Pakhi berate her for being a mere housewife and for her incomplete degree except her father-in-law Hasmukh Shah, younger son Samar, her younger sister-in-law Dolly, her husband Sanjay, and Dolly and Sanjay’s daughter, Meenali.
Vanraj is having a secret extra-marital affair with his colleague Kavya Gandhi for the past eight years in the disguise of friendship. Pakhi and Paritosh even replace her with Kavya for Pakhi’s school competition and meeting with Paritosh’s girlfriend Kinjal Dave’s parents. But Kinjal’s mother Rakhi starts sensing the relationship between Vanraj and Kavya. Samar also meets Kavya’s USA-returned niece Nandini Iyer and they instantly turn into friends of their love for Anupamaa. Soon Anupamaa’s best friend Devika Mehta learns of the affair and informs Anupamaa about it along with Kavya’s husband Aniruddh but she refuses to believe them and expresses her faith in Vanraj and Kavya. As Paritosh and Kinjal become engaged, the family prepares for Anupamaa and Vanraj’s silver jubilee anniversary and Nandini learns of the affair and informs Paritosh about it. But he is manipulated by Vanraj. On the wedding anniversary day, Anupamaa feels heartbroken when she sees Vanraj and Kavya become intimate. She decides to live her life on her own terms and Samar also breaks all ties with Vanraj after learning about it and starts calling him “Mr. Shah” instead of “Papa”.
101-200 “Vanraj’s Affair being exposed in front of family, Samar’s proposal to Nandini, Anupamaa’s decision to divorce Vanraj, and Pakhi’s depression”
More people become aware of the affair, Samar falls for Nandini to which she initially declines and they decide to continue as friends. Rakhi exposes the affair in front of the whole family leaving them heartbroken. Vanraj also leaves home after Hasmukh refuses to support him and his family suffers a financial crisis leading Anupamaa to start working as a cooking and dance teacher. Paritosh and Kinjal elope and marry and Vanraj meets with an accident and starts realizing his feelings for Anupamaa. Samar also learns about Nandini’s past accident which left her sterile due to the removal of her uterus and her hidden feelings for him. As Vanraj tries to confess his love, Anupamaa rebukes him and he returns to Kavya and loses his job. Thus Anupamaa decides to divorce Vanraj to set herself free from a caged relationship. However this leads to an ego hurt of Vanraj and he claims Anupamaa mentally unstable infuriating Samar. In the confrontation Kavya tries to instigate Samar to hit her but the latter ends up breaking her furniture and in return she falsely alleges him of hitting her. However takes back her complaint after Anupamaa threatens to reveal about her affair with Vanraj in front of police if she dares to ruin Samar’s life. Later on Pakhi suffers from depression after seeing Kavya’s real nature and Anupamaa and Vanraj decide to live together until Pakhi recovers.
201-300 “Kickstart of Samar and Nandini’s love story, Anupamaa’s fight with cancer, Anupama and Vanraj’s divorce and post-divorce life of Anupamaa and Shahs”
While Nandini confesses her love for Samar, Kavya is molested and brought back to Shah’s house. Later Vanraj and Leela objects to Samar and Nandini’s relationship leading to a major drama and face-off between Vanraj and Samar on Mahashivratri. However Anupamaa objects to Samar for going against his father and he promises her to keep control over his anger and also vows to start “Anupamaa Dance Academy ” to fulfill his, Anupamaa, and Nandini’s dream. As the divorce date approaches, Vanraj fears that he will lose his family and Anupamaa leaving behind a letter. Later Anupamaa gets a call from Dr. Advait Khanna that Vanraj is in Blissdom’s Wellness Resort of Surat. There, Anupamaa is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Samar and Nandini’s engagement is canceled after the truth about Nandini’s sterility is revealed and Anupamaa supports them. Anupamaa urges Vanraj to divorce her to set herself free, Kavya also divorces Aniruddh. She starts preparing for her wedding with Vanraj and threatens to
