Pakistani artist asks US military to return the artwork he painted in Guantanamo • FRANCE 24

before post

Ahmed Rabbani was released from Guantanamo in February 2023 along with his brother Abdul after spending 20 years imprisoned in the infamous detention centre. Rabbani, a Pakistani national born in Saudi Arabia who returned to Pakistan two months ago, is calling on the US to give him back a number of artworks he painted during his time in detention that he said denounced the torture he suffered at the hands of his captors. The paintings were confiscated by the US military on the grounds that they were “a threat to national security”. The two brothers, 55 and 53 respectively, have never been tried and no charges have been brought against them.
